Warning Description: Special Weather Statement
Warning Date: 3:39 PM CST on February 8, 2010
WarningSum:...Wintry Weather Possible Later This Week...
Warning Message:A cold Arctic air mass will continue to build in across west central
Texas through Tuesday. With the Arctic air mass in place...an upper
level storm system will approach west central Texas by Wednesday. As
moisture is lifted up and over the cold air mass...a wintry mix of
rain...sleet...and even snow is expected to develop as early as
Wednesday afternoon. With the storm system expected to move fairly
slowly across west central Texas...this wintry mix may continue
through Thursday night.
On Wednesday and Wednesday night...moisture will still be limited so
any precipitation that occurs is expected to be light. The better
chances for significant wintry precipitation will occur on Thursday
as the upper level storm system moves across west central Texas.
There remains a great deal of uncertainty with regards to just how
much...and what type...of wintry precipitation may develop. Temperatures
will be critical for this event. Readings even a few degrees colder
would allow the wintry mix to to change over to accumulating
snowfall. Slightly warmer temperatures would allow for just a cold
rain.
Residents of west central Texas are encouraged to monitor the latest
forecast and weather conditions. Be prepared for a prolonged period
of cold temperatures and the potential for wintry weather across
west central Texas.
